At last the long trip through Rawley has come to an end. Episode 8 of Creek of the Week: A Dawson’s Creek Podcast Presents – Young Dumb and Full of *AHEM* Americans: A Young Americans Bonus Series Podcast Event. The final episode of the ill-fated WB drama finds our gang in various pickles that seemed to spring out of nowhere. Will finds his scholarship has run out, and he won’t be coming back next semester. Sexy Prof walks in on topless Jake as she’s about to hop in the shower with Hamilton, meaning she can’t come back next semester. Bella’s garage is being put up for auction, meaning she’ll be hooking on the streets of Boston to make ends meet next semester. And Scout Calhoun is… he’s fine. Rich people don’t have problems. All of this culminates in a season finale that gives us just a taste of what this show could have been had it not wasted it’s first 7 weeks with disjointed plots and too many panning shots of beaches teeming with shirtless boys. We have reached the penultimate Young Americans episode, and we recorded it before the prior episode, so things may be a little weird. Fear not! The original show was bland enough that we hardly noticed we had skipped an entire hour, one eighth of the series as a whole. Basically this week Rider is a British jerk and Wil is a brooding, misunderstood intellectual so naturally he deserves to be with the pretty girl. Jake and Hamilton are really not doing a good job of keeping their business under wraps, particularly when Hamilton announces to the school that he’s going to move in with his best “friend”. Also Bella is turning sweet 16 and that hardly factors into the plot at all. It’s an episode! This week the kids come face to face with injustice, and they all get involved to fight it in their own ways. Principal Green was a great man, he easily recognized that a #PaceyPunch is not adolescent chicanery, but righteous retribution dealt out to the deserving. However when he chooses to give Pacey a lenient sentence while, at the same time, expelling his foe, the community goes nuts and calls for his resignation. Our hero, Lil Joey Potter steps up to defend him, and the students of Capeside High rally behind her. We found the premise a little lacking, but the execution was still quite enjoyable. Bella writes a letter to her long lost father and it gets misplaced, so the gang has to undertake some madcap hijinks to get it back and keep from exposing Scout’s dad’s dirty secret. Will loses his laptop to Rider in a poker game, and absolutely has to get an essay off of it. Jake and Allright Hamilton go on their first date where gender issues arise. This week we get bonus deleted scenes that didn’t air on the original American version, and since they are subtitled you get to hear our unique interpretation.
