Episode 24 – All good things… …must come to an end.
Thankfully this podcast is far from “good”, and will continue as scheduled next week! Every episode we have a 1 in 10 chance of watching the finale of Dawson’s Creek. On Episode 24 we finally hit the 10 spot. So you get a super long extended episode this week, and we get to watch the finale! In case you’ve forgotten, it’s 5 years after the last episode and Dawson’s awful mother is getting remarried to what we assume is an equally awful man. All the kids are coming back to see the wedding, and even though it’s been 5 years, they are still just as angsty as ever. I remembered this being cheesy, but it would be a lie to say we didn’t enjoy watching it again. Had this been tacked on to the end of season 4 it would have actually been a pretty great wrap up. So we’re back in Season 4, that’s awesome. Unfortunately it’s an episode we watched a few weeks back. Wait! Don’t click away just yet! We make up for it with dirty jokes and laughter! So as you may recall, Pacey and Joey recently engaged in coitus, and she’s worried about Dawson finding out. Meanwhile Dawson is trying to establish a meaningful relationship with an older woman. Gretchen, bless her heart, is doing her best to ignore the fact that she’s dating a teenager. But what about Jen and Jack? They’re out stirrin’ up trouble, stalking Jen’s psychiatrist. Look, we can’t control the dice. We did not expect this many repeats this early in the show. But this experiment is far too important to compromise by breaking the rules. So we, your intrepid (and handsome) hosts, are pushing on. We’re going to watch as many Season 5 eps and repeat eps as it takes. We will suffer for our art. Good news, everyone! It’s a super special Friday bonus episode, and it takes place in everyone’s favorite season of Dawson’s Creek, Season 5! Use Your Disillusion, contrary to what the title may lead you to believe, has zero Slash or Axl, but it does have a lot of drama. Dawson is grieving the loss of his father while Joey tries to be a supportive friend and take his mind off of it for a weekend. Meanwhile Jack is pledging a frat and totally dissing his boyfriend, Toby. Jen and Pacey? They’re here too. They go to a play and get into hijinks when they see Jen’s boyfriend (Chad Michael Murray) with another girl. Jen flips, but Pacey is ever the voice of reason. This is it, people. The episode we rolled up this week is pretty widely regarded as the worst episode of Dawson’s Creek ever. I hadn’t seen it since it’s original airing, and I have to tell you, that title is well deserved. For one thing, it’s a gimmick episode featuring the cast of a TV talk show that was semi-popular at the time, so it is an act of ratings desperation. Secondly… THERE’S NO PACEY. There’s also no Dawson, but THERE’S NO PACEY! Dawson’s Creek without Pacey is like pizza without cheese, cake without ice cream, porn without a money shot. What’s the point?
